Reunification Therapy may be recommended or court ordered to a family experiencing a season of difficult transition in which a child or children may be estranged from or has/have not had regular contact with a parent, guardian, or other significant adult figure. Reunification Therapy can be helpful in assessing and addressing the barriers to a healthy relationship between the estranged parties. Reunification Therapy involves working with the entire family to bring functioning and balance back to the family system after periods of high conflict or transition. The primary goal of Reunification Therapy is to re-establish a healthy relationship between the estranged parties. It is the hope that once Reunification Therapy concludes, the family will be able to independently use the skills learned in therapy to navigate future conflicts and transitions with ease.
